PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has unveiled its latest limited-time offering, Dodgebomb – a War Mode variant which essentially asks you to fend off a relentless barrage of explosives using nowt but a measly frying pan.
Dodgebomb’s fiery chaos unfurls on Erangel, Battlegrounds’ beloved original map, and supports 30 players evenly split across three team. As a match begins, each participant is granted 20 frag grenades, a molotov, Level 3 gear, and the all-important frying pan.
And that’s your lot! There are no additional weapons or vehicles to be found – it’s just you, your trusty frying pan, and an absolute hellstorm of fiery terror this time around. And further contributing to what’s clearly intended to be a breathless match of barely contained mayhem, knock-downs are disabled, meaning that lethal damage immediately sends you off to the great airplane in the sky – although drop-offs reoccur every 30 seconds.
As for the other minutiae, red zones, care packages, and killer spectating are all disabled. Additionally, it’s forever sunny, so you won’t have to worry about the weather, at least.
In order to win a game of Dodgebomb, a team must score 100 points before the timer runs out. Three points are awarded per kill, and if the big 100 isn’t reached by the time that the countdown expires, the team with the most points is victorious.
If all of that appeals, Dodgebomb is available to play from tomorrow, August 10th, at 3am BST in the UK. Festivities come to an end on Monday, August 13th, at 3am BST. That’s from August 9th at 7pm PST until August 12th at 7pm PST, for the benefit of our American chums.
In other, earlier news, developer PUBG Corp recently announced that it was ready “to do something about” the various bugs, performance problems, and quality-of-life woes that have, in the company’s words, “been limiting PUBG’s true potential”. Eurogamer’s Emma Kent asked of the initiative, “By validating player accusations the game is buggy, and only reacting to this after a year of complaints, has PUBG Corp jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire?”. Which happily brings us full-circle back to Dodgebomb. How about that, eh?
